Important notices

An update is irreversable.

Make sure your ReaderPen Secure is charged to at least 50% prior to making the upgrade.

The updates are incremental and in case there is more than one newer version, the updates have to be applied one by one until reaching the latest.

What you need

Your ReaderPen Secure

A micro-USB cable with data wires (some USB cables are charge-only).

A computer (MAC, Windows, Linux).

The firmware update file (link below with instructions).

To find current version, navigate ReaderPen Secure UI to Settings\System Information\Version

My current firmware version

This is the latest firmware version . No update is currently available.

7.4.01 is possible to upgrade to 7.4.03.

Download firmware update file: 7.4.03

Unzip and extract the file updatesys_7.4.03.BIN.

Connect ReaderPen Secure with the USB cable to the computer.

and enable U-Disk.

A new portable disk will appear on your computer – copt updatesys_7.4.03.BIN to that disk, then select to eject the disk.

On ReaderPen Secure, navigate to Settings\Software Upgrade and press OK button. Next select Yes and press OK button to confirm.

Connect Desktop (Windows)

             

 

Connect Desktop app

Aside from C-Pen Keyboard functionality, the Connect Desktop app features Text Reader and Scan to File functions. Text can be set to be read out automatically or only when prompted to. It is possible to listen to full/multiple sentences and paragraphs or a single word. One time or repeatedly, as required. Scanned text can also be saved to text files and retrieved at a later point in time and re-listened to. A nice feature to support learning.

Download Connect Desktop app, then run/open/execute the downloaded .exe file to install Connect Desktop app.

Connect Chrome extension

Connect Chrome extension is OS independent and runs on Chrome web browser.

Connect Chrome extension is installed from Chrome Web Store. Once installed it opens as a (left side) panel in the open tab and uses Chrome’s built-in Bluetooth services to connect to the C-Pen Connect.

The extension is OS independent and nothing is required to be installed locally on the computer.

Connect Chrome extension can be used for multiple purposes; assistive reading, productivity and collaboration.

It can be set up to read scanned text out aloud, either automatically or when prompted. It is easy to use side by side with online collaboration services like e.g. Google Doc, MS Word online, OneNote and Evernote and is a perfect tool to boost productivity.

This is how it works…

Connect Desktop (MAC)

 

 

Connect Desktop app

Aside from C-Pen Keyboard functionality (scan text to cursor position), the Connect Desktop app also features Text Reader and Scan to File functions. Download Connect Desktop app 

After download, open the .dmg file. To install, drag the Connect Desktop icon onto the Application folder icon.

Enable C-PEN Keyboard

The keyboard feature allows you to scan your text into other apps than Connect Desktop. Apps like Word, TextEdit, Excel, etc.

To enable this, 

  1. Go to System Preferences/Security & Privacy and click the Privacy tab.
  2. Select Accessibility in the left section. To the right is a section called “Allow the apps to control your computer” that probably is dimmed.
  3. Click on the padlock symbol in the lower right corner to open it. You will be prompted for your MAC password. Enter it and proceed.
  4. Now, select the Connect Desktop checkbox.
  5. Click the padlock again to lock it.

In order to upgrade you’ll need…

Your LingoPen

A micro-USB cable (included in the LingoPen gift box)

A computer (MAC, Windows or Linux)

Current software version of your LingoPen

Go to Settings\System Information\Version and check Software version

 

Upgrade instructions & information

Upgrades are incremental which means that you may have to upgrade several times to reach latest. Each upgrade may take 10-30 minutes subject to how much new stuff we have included.

Before starting the upgrade, connect LingoPen to a computer in U-disk mode and verify available disk space to be more than 2GB.

 

To get started, click on the tab below that shows your LingoPen’s current software version.

To proceed, download THIS upgrade file.

Save the downloaded .zip

Right click and Open the zip file to view the content.

Select Extract all content.

Connect LingoPen to your computer in U-disk mode.

Copy updatesys_7.2.04.BIN to LingoPen U-disk.

Eject LingoPen U-disk and disconnect it from the computer USB.

Navigate to Settings\Software Upgrade on LingoPen. Select Yes to confirm to upgrade.

When upgrade is done, LingoPen reboots and you are good to go.

Your LingoPen is possible to upgrade to version 7.2.01

To proceed, download THIS upgrade file.

Save the downloaded .zip

Right click and Open the zip file to view the content.

Select Extract all content.

Connect LingoPen to your computer in U-disk mode.

Copy updatesys_7.7.01.BIN and sysdict.BIN to LingoPen U-disk.

Eject LingoPen U-disk and disconnect it from the computer USB.

Navigate to Settings\Software Upgrade on LingoPen. Select Yes to confirm to upgrade.

When upgrade is done, LingoPen reboots and you are good to go.

 


 

 

 


 

 


Connect Mobile (iOS)

1. Download and install C-PEN Connect app

2. Connect C-PEN Connect with iOS app

The C-PEN Connect app downloaded in the previous step includes a wizard on this topic.

Start C-PEN Connect app.

Power on C-PEN Connect by pressing the Power button (item#4 in the device description) for 5 seconds. Wait around 20 seconds for the LED indicator (item #3 in the  device description) to switch to flashing BLUE.

The app will now connect to the pen, and the BLUE LED will turn to steady light.

Now we are ready to scan.

3. Using C-PEN Connect and its companion app

Everything and anything scanned will end up in the C-PEN Connect app “workspace”.

Text may be SAVED in a local text file. C-PEN Conect app features embedded (offline) translation and a generic SHARE function enabling:

Upload text/file to a cloud drive.

Share text/file with a friend.

It is also possible to have the text on the workspace READ OUT loud by means of iOS system TTS.

Connect Mobile (Android)

1. Download and install C-PEN Connect app

2. Pair C-PEN Connect with your Android unit

The C-PEN Core app downloaded in the previous step includes a wizard on this topic.

Power on C-PEN Connect/BT10 by pressing the Power button in the device description for 5 seconds.

Wait around 20 seconds for the LED indicator (item #3 in the  device description) to switch to flashing BLUE.

Open Android Settings (usually a cogwheel in the Notification Drawer/top bar) and proceed to Bluetooth section.

In Bluetooth settings, click the option to pair/add a new device.

When device BT10 shows up, click on it to pair.

Start C-PEN Core app.

The app will now connect to the pen, and the BLUE LED will turn to steady light. Now we are ready to scan.

3. Using C-PEN Connect and its companion app

Everything and anything scanned will end up in the C-PEN Connect app “workspace”.

Text may be SAVED in a local text file.

C-PEN Connect app features a generic SHARE function enabling:
Upload text/file to a cloud drive
Share text/file with a friend.
Send text to 3rd party translation app for translation.

It is also possible to have the text on the workspace READ OUT loud by means of Android system TTS.

In order to upgrade you’ll need…

Your ExamReader

A micro-USB cable

A computer (MAC, Windows or Linux)

Current software version and serial number of your ExamReader

Go to Settings\System Information\Version and check Software version

Serial number is printed on the ExamReader box and on the back side of the ExamReader itself.

To get started, click on the tab below that shows your ExamReader’s current software version.

 

My ExamReader software is version 7.1.76

Congratulation. Your ExamReadr has the latest firmware.

My ExamReader software is version 7.1.73

If ExamReader serial number is 241531903xxxxxxx or higher, it can be updated to latest version (7.1.76).

NOTE: the same download file applies independent if using Windows, MAC or Linux – except that the included upgrade exe file is for Windows only.

To proceed, download THIS upgrade file.

Save the downloaded .zip file. This is a large file and it will take some time to download unless you have a really speedy internet connection.

Right click and Open the zip file to view the content. Check here for additional instructions or if you use MAC/Linux.

Right click and select Open the .exe file.

Select Extract all content.

In the new window, right click and Open ExamReaderFWUpgrade.exe to run it.

Follow instruction provided in the upgrade tool.

My Examreader software is version 7.1.69

Download firmware version 7.1.73.

Unzip and extract the file with .bin extension. Place it in a folder of your choice on your computer (e.g. in the Download folder or on the Desktop).

Copy the .bin file to the USB drive (“ExamReader drive”).

Right click on the portable “ExamReader drive” on the computer and select to Eject it.

Disconnect ExamReader from the computer.

Press OK button thre (3) times and accept (Yes) to upgrade.

The upgrade may take 10 minutes and ExamReader will reboot automatically when done.

Other ExamReader software versions

These ExamReaders are unfortunately not upgradeable.


DictionaryPen firmware upgrade

Check upgradeability

All C610D/DictionaryPens are possible to upgrade to latest version.

Download and unzip latest firmware file and proceed according to Upgrade below.

For version history, click HERE.

Upgrade

Make sure the reader Pen battery is charged to at least 50%.
Connect the DictionaryPen to your computer and select U-disk mode.
Copy the two files extracted from the downloaded firmware (sysdict.bin & updatesys_7.y.xx.bin) to the C610R drive (if there are two drives pick the large one).
When copying is finished, eject the drive and disconnect it (unplug USB cable).
On the DictionaryPen, navigate to Settings/Software Upgrade and press OK button to select.
Press yes and wait for the upgrade to finish. This may take up to 10 minutes.


ReaderPen firmware upgrade

Your ReaderPen is possible to upgrade to version 7.0.107

 

Step 1: Download and save this THIS upgrade file on your computer.

Step 2: Right click on the downloaded file (C610R 7.0.107.zip) and select to uncompress/unzip it. This step gives you 2 new files – sysdict.BIN & updatesys_7.0.107.BIN.

Step 3: Connect your ReaderPen to your computer USB port. On the pen, use the navigation button to move the arrow to U-Disk option and then press the OK/center button. A new portable drive will appear on your computer.

NOTE: Before next step – make sure your personal text files and voice recordings (if any) on your ReaderPen is backed up to your computer.

Step 4: Copy sysdict.BIN and  updatesys_7.0.107.BIN to the pen drive.

Step 5: Eject the ReaderPen drive from the computer.

Step 6: On ReaderPen, navigate to Settings\Software Upgrade and press OK button to select. In the next view, select Yes and press OK button. This will trigger the upgrade.

Once the upgrade is finished – ReaderPen will reboot.

My ReaderPen has software version 7.0.102

Your ReaderPen is possible to upgrade to version 7.0.103.

To proceed, download THIS upgrade file.

Save the downloaded .zip file.

Right click and Open the zip file to view the content.

Select Extract all content.

My ReaderPen has software version 7.0.100

Your ReaderPen is possible to upgrade to version 7.0.102.
