OCR is missing

Just installed C-PEN Core and it does not start properly?

Is there a “OCR is missing ” error message?

The later versions of C-PEN Core uses a newer version of the OCR engine (Optical Character Recognition) and if a previous version of C-PEN Core has been installed and not properly removed – then the new OCR is not properly installed. If this happens, or the OCR is not properly installed for any other reason this message is shown.

To resolve it we need to make sure that any old OCR is removed and the new (which is included in the C-PEN Core installer) is installed.

These steps apply to Windows 10 but are pretty similar for earlier versions of Windows.

  1. Go to Windows Settings\Apps and Features
  2. Use the search list and search for OCR.
  3. If C-Pen OCR Engine shows up – chose to uninstall it.
  4. Now download and reinstall latest C-PEN Core version.

If required, please consult How to make a clean re-install article.

.NET is missing

Just installed C-PEN Core and it does not start properly?

Is there a “.NET missing” error message?

.NET is a Windows component used by C-PEN Core software, the Windows software to use with e.g. our TS1 models. In Windows 10, .NET 3.5 does not always come preinstalled which will cause this error. To resole it – .NET 3,5 needs to be installed manually.

The video below shows the step.

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Go to Programs
  3. Select Turn Windows components on or off.
  4. Locate .NET 3.5 and make sure the check box is checked.
  5. Click Apply/OK to install.

Now get back and try to restart C-PEN Core.

How to check which TS1 version is connected

There are two different versions of TS1. Originally there is TS1, which was discontinued during 2019 and replaced by TS1 (G2) – occasionally referred to as TS1 rev.2.

This is how to check which version is connected to your Windows PC:

How do I know if my TS1 is the original or the new G2 version?

Windows

Connect the TS1 to a USB port on your Windows PC

Start Device Manager (tap Windows button on the keyboard and start typing Device Manager and the option will show up)

Expand entry Cameras and check subentry. It will say either TS1 or TS1 rev2

TS1 G2 in device manager

Unable to load DLL ‘CPenCore.dll’

ERROR

Exception:
Unable to load DLL ‘CPenCore.dll’: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

This and similar error(s) may be caused by missing dependencies. As a first step a clean reinstall is recommended to make sure all dependencies are correctly installed.

Troubleshoot TS1 (Windows)

If TS1 seems to connect properly to the computer (as seen in Device Manager) but still doesn’t connect to C-PEN Core app – please check Camera Privacy settings (applies to Windows 10).

It ay look slightly different in different versions of Win 10 but in general:

  1. Camera access needs to be ON.
  2. Apps needs to have access to camera. Especially the native Camera app and C-Pen Core desktop app.

C-Pen 200/600/800 with Windows x64

C-Pen 200/600/800 do not support 64 bit Windows but it *may* work if installing the C-Pen software in Compatibility mode.

Right click on the installer file (C-Win_3_24.exe) and then select Properties + the Compatibility tab and get a window like in the image below.

This solution is NOT officially tested but MAY work.

Does the pen(s) work with USB-C?

USB-C is a physical specification compatible with the earlier protocols used by the various C-PEN models.
A USB-C to USB-A adapter is however required.
