Your device is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with 62° to 72° F (16° to 22° C) as the ideal comfort zone. It’s especially important to avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C), which can permanently damage battery capacity.
If you want to store your device long term (e.g. summer breaks), two key factors will affect the overall health of your battery: the environmental temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it’s powered down for storage. Therefore, we recommend the following:
• Do not fully charge or discharge the battery – charge to around 50%.
• Power down the device.
• Store in a cool moist-free environment less than 90° F (32° C).
• Top up charge to 50% every 3 months.
Do not run battery completely flat and do not leave product connected to charger when fully charged.

ExamReader firmware upgrade
This upgrade is compatible with ExamReaders running software version 7.1.69 and higher.
To check software version:
Check version history.
– Make sure the reader Pen battery is charged to at least 50%.
– Connect ExamReader to your computer
– Navigate to Settings\System information\Version
– Press MENU button. A new removable disk shall appear on your computer.
– Download latest firmware.Unzip and extract the file with .bin extension.
– Copy the.bin file to the USB drive (“ExamReader drive”).
– Eject the drive (done on the computer).
– Disconnect ExamReader from the computer.
– Press OK button thre (3) times and accept (Yes) to upgrade.
USB-C is a physical specification compatible with the earlier protocols used by the various C-PEN models.
A USB-C to USB-A adapter is however required.
Can I upgrade the ExamReader firmware?
The pen only reads gibberish / do not read at all
Should the C-PEN still not recognise the text properly then please shoot a short video showing the failing scan process and submit a ticket to us on this site.
Warranty and returns
General returns: The general return policy is subject to the policy of the reseller selling the product. If you want to buy and try, check the reseller’s policy prior to making the purchase.
Warranty: Unless otherwise regulated by laws in the country where the product is purchased, 12 months warranty applies.
The warranty does not apply to defects occurring due to normal wear and tear, or if the product has been disassembled and/or altered. Further, as an exception to the general warranty, the battery of the product (if any) is warranted against defects occurring only within the first six (6) months after the product was received¹.
In case of a warranty claim, contact the local reseller.
If preferred, the defect unit can be sent directly to C-PEN for replacement (NOT refund). Customer will then have to cover the shipping cost to C-PEN (located in Sweden, Europe), and C-PEN will cover shipping cost for sending a replacement product to the customer.
In cases where the defect cannot be reproduced, C-PEN will NOT charge any investigation fee, but return shipment to the customer will be charged.

Please check volume settings in Reading settings (available in Text Reader, Scan to File, or Dictionary mode).
