Connect Desktop app

Aside from C-Pen Keyboard functionality, the Connect Desktop app features Text Reader and Scan to File functions. Text can be set to be read out automatically or only when prompted to. It is possible to listen to full/multiple sentences and paragraphs or a single word. One time or repeatedly, as required. Scanned text can also be saved to text files and retrieved at a later point in time and re-listened to. A nice feature to support learning.

Connect Chrome extension

Connect Chrome extension is OS independent and runs on Chrome web browser.

Connect Chrome extension is installed from Chrome Web Store. Once installed it opens as a (left side) panel in the open tab and uses Chrome’s built-in Bluetooth services to connect to the C-Pen Connect.

The extension is OS independent and nothing is required to be installed locally on the computer.

Connect Chrome extension can be used for multiple purposes; assistive reading, productivity and collaboration.

It can be set up to read scanned text out aloud, either automatically or when prompted. It is easy to use side by side with online collaboration services like e.g. Google Doc, MS Word online, OneNote and Evernote and is a perfect tool to boost productivity.

This is how it works…

C-Pen Connect & MAC

 

 

Two different solutions are available for using C-Pen Connect together with MAC OSX – C-Pen Core and Connect Desktop app. Both apps features our C-Pen Keyboard function, allowing text to be scanned into any app on your computer. Connect Desktop app does in addition also support (assistive) text reading and supports saving text to files. Which is the better one depends on your preferred usage scenario.  

 

C-Pen Core

This is our traditional digital highlighter/productivity solution, and it is basically a device driver that links the pen scanner to the computer, the operating system and your favorite apps. Once C-Pen Core is installed and linked to Connect pen scanner, you simply open an application of your choice and start scanning. C-Pen Core is a great option if you like to have a non-intrusive and transparent integration between the pen and your computer.

C-PEN Connect (BT10) & iOS

1. Download and install C-PEN Connect app

2. Connect C-PEN Connect with iOS app

The C-PEN Connect app downloaded in the previous step includes a wizard on this topic.

Start C-PEN Connect app.

Power on C-PEN Connect by pressing the Power button (item#4 in the device description) for 5 seconds. Wait around 20 seconds for the LED indicator (item #3 in the  device description) to switch to flashing BLUE.

The app will now connect to the pen, and the BLUE LED will turn to steady light.

Now we are ready to scan.

3. Using C-PEN Connect and its companion app

Everything and anything scanned will end up in the C-PEN Connect app “workspace”.

Text may be SAVED in a local text file. C-PEN Conect app features embedded (offline) translation and a generic SHARE function enabling:

Upload text/file to a cloud drive.

Share text/file with a friend.

It is also possible to have the text on the workspace READ OUT loud by means of iOS system TTS.

C-PEN Connect (BT10) & Android

1. Download and install C-PEN Connect app

2. Pair C-PEN Connect with your Android unit

The C-PEN Core app downloaded in the previous step includes a wizard on this topic.

Power on C-PEN Connect/BT10 by pressing the Power button in the device description for 5 seconds.

Wait around 20 seconds for the LED indicator (item #3 in the  device description) to switch to flashing BLUE.

Open Android Settings (usually a cogwheel in the Notification Drawer/top bar) and proceed to Bluetooth section.

In Bluetooth settings, click the option to pair/add a new device.

When device BT10 shows up, click on it to pair.

Start C-PEN Core app.

The app will now connect to the pen, and the BLUE LED will turn to steady light. Now we are ready to scan.

3. Using C-PEN Connect and its companion app

Everything and anything scanned will end up in the C-PEN Connect app “workspace”.

Text may be SAVED in a local text file.

C-PEN Connect app features a generic SHARE function enabling:
Upload text/file to a cloud drive
Share text/file with a friend.
Send text to 3rd party translation app for translation.

Battery maintenance

Maximizing battery life

Avoid extreme ambient temperatures

Your device is designed to perform well in a wide range of ambient temperatures, with 62° to 72° F (16° to 22° C) as the ideal comfort zone. It’s especially important to avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures higher than 95° F (35° C), which can permanently damage battery capacity.

Store it half-charged when storing long term

If you want to store your device long term (e.g. summer breaks), two key factors will affect the overall health of your battery: the environmental temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it’s powered down for storage. Therefore, we recommend the following:

• Do not fully charge or discharge the battery – charge to around 50%.
• Power down the device.
• Store in a cool moist-free environment less than 90° F (32° C).
• Top up charge to 50% every 3 months.

During regular use

Do not run battery completely flat and do not leave product connected to charger when fully charged.

 


Warranty and returns

General returns: The general return policy is subject to the policy of the reseller selling the product. If you want to buy and try, check the reseller’s policy prior to making the purchase.

Warranty: Unless otherwise regulated by laws in the country where the product is purchased, 12 months warranty applies.

The warranty does not apply to defects occurring due to normal wear and tear, or if the product has been disassembled and/or altered. Further, as an exception to the general warranty, the battery of the product (if any) is warranted against defects occurring only within the first six (6) months after the product was received¹.

In case of a warranty claim, contact the local reseller.

If preferred, the defect unit can be sent directly to C-PEN for replacement (NOT refund).  Customer will then have to cover the shipping cost to C-PEN (located in Sweden, Europe), and C-PEN will cover shipping cost for sending a replacement product to the customer.

In cases where the defect cannot be reproduced, C-PEN will NOT charge any investigation fee, but return shipment to the customer will be charged.
